Back in Q1 of last year, one of BMW’s collaborations had a snazzy S 1000RR LEGO® set gracing toy shelves across the country. Now’s it’s Yamaha’s turn – and they’ve chosen their flagship hyper naked sports bike for the honors.
Meet the LEGO® Technic™ Yamaha MT-10 SP set.
One of the big differences between Yamaha’s OG MT-10 and the SP variant is the Öhlins suspension duty; thanks to this new power duo partnership, the SP’s gold forks are beautifully shown off in this new LEGO® Technic™ set.
The best part for me, though, has to be the fact that LEGO’s choice of componentry allows working steering, as well as a mobile chain drive, 4-cylinder engine, 3-speed transmission, and floating duties – 1,478 pieces in all, folks.
This is the real deal.
Other working perks of this 25cm x 44cm x 15cm build:
- shifting drum
- shift fork
- shift ring
- tensioner drum
“Although you can only change three gears compared to the six on the real thing – that in itself is an intricate LEGO gearbox design to separately show off by the bike’s side,” adds Yanko Design.
“Another interesting feature of the kit is that you can use the augmented reality feature to open the LEGO app on your phone to view the interesting overlays.”
“Again, you can see the gearbox in motion in this AR interface.”
In short, Yamaha’s new MT-10SP LEGO® Technic™ set has gone the full mile in doing justice to Yamaha’s King of the MT – and that makes our inner child very happy indeed.
Expect this bike to be a 1:5 scaled-down model (not the real deal!), and to be offered on August 1 for a price tag of $240 USD.
