Learners really are spoilt for choice with Yamaha now dropping the price and raising the power on the Yamaha FZ6R.
The learner-approved bike arrives at $9990 ($500 more for the Team Yamaha blue and white livery) which is $1300 less than the previous model.
But the news gets even better with Yamaha offering free on-road costs until September 25, so these will be the rideaway prices.
This is yet another quality Learner-Approved Motorcycles Scheme (LAMS) bike that will satisfy many returned or starter riders long after they are off their P plates.
The rapid growth in this sector of the market is great news for motorcyclists and the industry as it means more riders are hitting the road.
The fully faired Yamaha FZ6R is based on the XJ series with an inline four-cylinder 600cc engine now with power increased slightly to 35.5kW at 10,000rpm with plenty of torque in the low to mid range.
It weighs in at 213kg fully fueled and has a low 785mm seat height, so it should be suitable for learner riders and shorter people. The seat and handlebars are also adjustable to allow more riders to find their perfect fit.
Yamaha has also made the clutch lever light but with a strong engagement to ensure a glitch free ride for new riders.
It sports a midship shorty muffler which helps keep the centre of gravity low and centred for easier handling at low speeds.
Learners will be keen to note that Yamaha hasn’t cut corners on the brakes with dual 45 x 298mm twin discs up front. However, ABS is not available.
With a generous fuel tank of 17.3 litres it should be good for about 350km of range.Yamaha is keen to point out that it this bike is still made in Japan, not South East Asia as are many of its rivals. However, it’s a moot point as I have yet to see any bad quality bikes coming out of SEA.
The Yamaha FZ6R has a range of special accessories including a rear carrier, centre stand, gngine guard, tank bag, roller protectors, tank pad, 46-litre top case with inner bag and a back rest.
