Ulysses grand paradeThe Harley Owners Group national rally and the national Ulysses rally will be held in more central venues in 2015, rather than the more “remote” venues of Cairns and Alice Springs this year.
Despite the remote locations, both groups were happy with attendances, but expect stronger attendances next year when the HOG rally is held in Tamworth in central NSW (Feb 27-March 1) and the Ulysses rally is held in Wodonga on the Victoria-NSW border (March 23-29).
The recent Ulysses rally was notable for the election of its first female president, Helena Gritton.
Members came from around AustraliaThe 2014 Ulysses rally from May 12-18 attracted about 2500 members from all over Australia, New Zealand and even Great Britain.
Many of the usual traders and motorcycle manufacturers chose not to attend because of the distance involved in travelling to Alice Springs. Harley-Davidson was the only bike company to attend and they were “well patronised as members were grateful for their efforts in being there”, says a committee member.
Highlights of the event included the Friday Night Beach Party complete with red sand the Todd Mall Markets, a Road Safety Forum, the Home Brew competition and the formal Saturday evening dinner.
The club reports that local radio stations and newspapers “leapt at the chance” to interview and photograph riders.
Joshua Prior from WA was awarded the Motorcycle Apprentice of the Year at the Civic Welcome Ceremony where Mayor Damien Ryan spoke about the positive effect of holding such an event. Kumarlie, a Central Arrernte local traditional owner welcomed all Ulyssians tothe country.
The newly elected National Committee consists of: President Helena Gritton, vice-president Jen Woods, secretary Noel Wilshire, treasurer Mike Abberfield and committee members Rob White, Henry Rokx and Peter Baulch.
