Organisers of the Father Bob Toy Run in Melbourne’s St Kilda on Sunday, December 13, 2015, are looking for some help.
Independent Riders Group spokesman Damien Codognotto says they will hold a dry run for the event from 10.30am to noon on Sunday, November 29.
He says they are looking for volunteers to be marshals and officials, a licensed electrician to run some cables and borrow some cable covers for pedestrian areas, a tray truck with a roof for a stage and a band.
The Toy Run venue is O’Donnell Gardens next to Luna Park in St Kilda.
“Our aims are to help kids, promote road safety and bring back the big parade toy runs because the parades are excellent PR for motorcycle and scooter community and tourist attractions in their own right,” he says.
The Father Bob Maguire Foundation was established in 2003 to help homeless youth.
Participants in the Toy Run and non-participants can make a donation to the Father Bob appeal at any time at any branch of the Bendigo Bank:
- Account name: INDEPENDENT RIDERS GROUP
- BSB: 633-000
- Account number:151266574
IRG spokesman Jon May says riders on the day should bring non-perishable food, hard toys, kids books/DVDs/CDs and cash donations which all goes to Father Bob.
Damien says all costs for the event such as phones, computers and equipment hire comes out of volunteers’ pockets.
The Toy Run in St Kilda is free with no fees or event registration. Toy Run t-shirts will be available on the day for $30 each or by earlier post for an extra $10.
This year riders will assemble from 9am and the run starts at 11am down Jacka Bvd, Beaconsfield Pde to Port Melbourne, then U-turn back along the beach to Robinson Reserve, Barkly St, Acland St, Shakespeare Gve and Cavell St.
There will be live music and presentations with a close at 3.30pm.
