Suzuki Australia is finally bringing back the much-loved SV650 now with some neat tricks and a neat introductory ride-away price of $9990.

The learner-approved motorcycle arrives in June and should be much appreciated by learners.

One of its tricks is an easy start where you just hit the button and let go and the starter motor runs until it fires up.

Another helpful trick for learners is a “low RPM assist” system which lifts revs when you let the clutch go to avoid stalling.

The new Suzuki SV650 is powered by a 645cc dual-spark 90° V-twin engine with 60 new parts.

While there is a full-powered version available overseas with a 4kW increase in power to 56kW and 63NM of torque, this LAMS version is restricted to 35kW of power and 56.5Nm to stay within the legal requirements.

Suzuki claims fuel economy is 3.8L/100km.

The new SV now sits in a modified Gladius steel chassis with a reduction in kerb weight by 8kg to 197kg and a low seat height of 785mm.

It also gets a new radiator with a bigger fan, a new brightness-adjustable LCD instrument cluster and LED taillights.

While most 600-650cc learner bikes are parallel twins, this is different for a name bike with a narrow V-twin that made it very popular for its slim design and easy handling.

It’s even narrower now with a 785mm seat so it should suit a wide variety of rider sizes.

The SV comes with 290mm dual front disc brakes with Nissin ABS and 240mm rear brake disc for what should be very competent stopping power.

It will arrive in Pearl Mira Red, Pearl Glacier White and Metallic Matte Black.

As a former SV650 owner, I can’t wait to ride this new, lighter, narrower and smarter version.
