The SE4 helmet is a redefined version of the SE3 helmet from TLD. Numerous changes are made in the design so much so that it has become a completely different helmet altogether. The new SE4 helmet is safer, lighter, and much more comfortable.
The SE4 helmet gets new upgrades, and it is an extremely lightweight helmet. It is a neutral fitting helmet that is very comfortable for round shaped faces. If you have a long and narrow head shape, the helmet may put undue pressure on your face. The helmet is premium priced in the range of $450 to $650.
Features
The SE4 helmet is a full-face helmet that weighs just 2.9 pounds. It is difficult to find a helmet weighing under 3 pounds which offers complete protection to the head and face.
If you enjoy TLD products, you know the effort the company puts in designing its products. When you are worried about comfort and safety, you can choose TLD products without giving it a second thought.
Shell Design
Carbon Kevlar composite shell design makes it one of the most lightweight helmets. The shell design makes it possible to use minimal resin fibers, making the shell lighter in weight. At the same time, it is tougher and offers solid protection to the head in case of impact.
EPS liner spreads all the way to the chin bar and provides adequate protection. The shell is available in three sizes to provide a comfortable fit. The hand laid pre-preg composite/carbon/MCT weave is useful in reducing the weight and improving the shell construction.
The unidirectional top weave improves style and strength of the helmet. The shell also includes nylon reinforcement polymer that is useful in impact zones.
Interior
While the previous helmet versions from TLD had dual density EPS liners that provided adequate protection, the SE4 helmet has a triple density EPS liner that is even more comfortable and safe. Three different thickness of EPS liner provides protection against both low-speed and high-speed impacts.
The interior liner slides easily and snaps perfectly. There are no snap points creating pressure points on your head. The contoured cheek pads ensure perfect fitment, and they also provide adequate support while using the helmet. The interior liner is made of Cool Max and Dri-Lex moisture wicking materials. The liner is removable and washable which keeps it fresh during its lifetime.

The characteristic feature of the SE4 helmet is the Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS). The MIPS system rotates inside the helmet and diffuses rotational force in case of a crash. All of the directional blow is taken by the helmet so that minimal trauma is transferred to your head.
The EPS liner runs all the way to the chin bar to protect your face along with your head. The liner also has a cutaway that is useful in inserting a communication system if you want.
The interior has an eject system that can be used in times of crash. Unlike the emergency release system, there is no need to pull the cheek pads which can intensify neck injuries. Air can be filled in the eject panel so that the helmet is pushed out of your head, protecting your neck. This system can be used in times of need.
Ventilation
The SE4 helmet has one of the most advanced ventilation systems. It has 16 intake vents and 6 exhaust vents to provide a massive amount of airflow inside the helmet. The interior has 9 channels to maximize airflow.
The chin vents are massive, and brow vents are kept lower to push more air inside the helmet. The shell is molded to improve the aerodynamics. In extreme temperatures, the helmet keeps your head cool with ideal air circulation made possible by a refined ventilation system.
Visor
The visor system is designed to enable you to install and remove visors according to your choice. It uses plastic visor screws and brass inserts that are useful in impact breakaway. The helmet ships with 2 SE4 matched visors so that you can make your pick.
Safety
Titanium D rings are used to secure the helmet to your head, and it is extremely lightweight. The SE4 helmet is ECE, DOT, and Snell certified. In other terms, you can’t find a helmet safer than this.
Other Factors for Consideration
One of the wonderful features of the SE4 helmet is that it is shipped with an additional peak. TLD knows that if you race on the track and enjoy dirt racing, the helmet peak is going to take a few blows. The extra peak is a nice touch by TLD showing how much it cares for the rider experience.
The helmet is also shipped with a very nice bag that makes it easy for you to carry the helmet wherever you want. It is a great addition to your collection of favorite helmets.
