The Schuberth C4 matt black flip face helmet is finally here, after a lot of speculation. A huge upgrade over the older C3 Pro, the prime change is noticeable in the shape. While the C3 Pro was a goliath in terms of shape and size, the designers at Schuberth have gifted the C4 with a sportier look than a bulbous mass. So whether you are sitting upright or are in a ¾ posture, you still get that wide area of view in the helmet’s default position on your head.
Like all other Schuberth helmets, this one too had to undergo its initiation trials in the rigorous wind tunnels at Schuberth labs. And the result is a super lightweight helmet that is also super quiet at about 82 dBA. Check price here.
You get your DOT and ECE certifications for a high level of adherence to the safety standards as well.

The SC-1 system is easier to install in this helmet, with the system and its battery compartment safely integrated in the neck roll. This saves you the hassle of buying it separately and enduring pain while installing it in the helmet recesses. This is on top of the boom-less microphones installed near the brow and dual-speakers preinstalled in the shell.
The top vent has been improved and reshaped to fit in more with the design and provide more airflow while at it.
Top Features to Look Out For
Shell
The intermediate oval (ergonomic fit as described by Schuberth) is actually an improvement over the previous iterations as they have taken care of the pressure points introduced by the uneven fits of the older generation helmets.
It’s light at 3.12 pounds, fits just right if you get the right size, and is very comfortable on your head.
The continual improvement in the manufacturing system shows in the helmet’s construction. Schuberth now uses DFP or Direct Fiber Processing. If you’ve read about how older light bulbs were created, you’d be instantly familiar with the process. What they do is use a continuous thread of fiber glass which is blown into a mold and then cut out by a robotic arm. Then a special resin is added to the setup under high pressure and temperature to form a very strong and lightweight shell. The unique thing is that the entire process is controlled by PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) so there is no element of human error. This even goes as far as using accurate sensors to detect the temperature and pressure at which the process is carried out.
The wind-tunnel testing guarantees that the helmet will remain stable and the riding experience will be free from buffeting and oscillations at your desired speed.

Straight out of the box, you get the Pinlock MaxVision anti-fog double pane face shield on the outside and a drop-down UV resistant ‘Sonnenvisier’ on the inside. The double-pane face shield technology removes the need of using any chemicals on the inner side to prevent fogging. The face shield locks into place with a snap fit which is simple and effective.
The added ‘Turbulators’ on the face shield are useful in reducing buffeting by deflecting the air better around the face shield than compared to one without.
The fantastic user-friendly thing about the shield is that is it is ridiculously easy to remove and fit back. You just rotate the shield from its default position to the 12 O’Clock position and it comes off. To fit it back, position it at the 12 O’Clock position and rotate it back to the snap fit.
Ventilation
A very sporty vent at the top has replaced the traditional dual vents in the C3 that matches the sporty trendy design of the helmet. This time, for the C4, Schuberth has made the air holes bigger from the precious 10-12 mm to a whopping 15 mm for a massive increase in the airflow on the top of your head. Combined with the already effective chin vents, there is a lot more air coming in the helmet that you may bargain for.
So where does all this air go? There are no exhausts at the back of the shell like Venturi. Instead, the air is channeled in a way so that it comes out the bottom of the helmet at the neck area.
Padding and Lining
The comfort materials you find in there are from ShinyTex featuring a quick-dry, anti-bacterial, sweat-wicking fabric. The neck roll comes out first, then the cheek pads and then the comfort liner. But these cheek pads have been fit in such a way using straps that the AROS (Anti-Roll-Off-System) comes into effect. It is a little fiddly to remove the cheek pads with the AROS straps and mounts, but that is a safety feature, so hopefully you won’t have to remove them as often.
Customer Reviews
You would think that a helmet that is as feature rich as the C4 would be a star among customers, but that’s not the story. It never is. The overall reception is exceptional, but some of them have decided to move away from Schuberth because of the noise at 70-80 mph.

It is not a bad helmet. When you are concerned about safety, you need to look away from the bells and whistles. And that’s exactly what you can get with this upgraded wonder.
