Schuberth C3 Pro Helmet Review

The Schuberth C3 Pro is the top of the line in modular helmets. Successor to the popular C3, the C3 Pro model comes with several improvements that truly put it in a class by itself. The new model looks very similar to the original C3 at first glance, but there are some subtle changes that make a big difference from a performance perspective.

Just a quick glance at the new features shows a new molded spoiler to decrease wind resistance. There is also a second new spoiler on the flip up visor. Another improvement is the integrated antenna capable of picking up full band FM and also able to function with Bluetooth. A revised ventilation system and better noise reduction are just a couple of the other improvements that come together to make this helmet nearly flawless.

Let’s look at the features:

1. Redesigned helmet shape and spoilers. Schuberth tested the shape of the shell and the new spoiler design in their wind tunnel facility. According to their research, downforce was improved by as much as eight percent at higher speeds.
2. Redesigned for improved noise reduction. The C3 Pro offers noise reduction at an almost unprecedented level. The original C3 design already featured one of the  quietest designs among flip up helmets. Schuberth says that they have improved on that, rating 82 db at 60 mph. This is an improvement of 2 db over the original C3 design, making this helmet the quietest ever produced by Schuberth.
3. Inner shell for greater range of sizes. After some customers reported having trouble finding a size that fit comfortable, Schuberth designed shells that inserted into the helmet to provide in between sizes. For instance there is a shell that basically creates a size between L and XL. This offers customers a wider variety of options for finding a Schuberth C3 Pro that fits comfortably and safely.
4. Integrated dual-band antenna with Bluetooth booster and full-length FM antenna. The antenna integrated into the C3 Pro can offer the rider a truly unique experience. This gives the options to access Bluetooth via the helmet and also tune in to any available FM channel.
5. Improved air flow system. The C3 Pro comes with several improvements to the air flow system making it one of the industry leaders in this category. The whole system has been overhauled including a new top vent scoop. The chin vent has been improved upon as well and according to Schuberth, the changes in this area mean that the helmet provides up to 2.5 gallons of air per second (at 60 miles per hour). Combine this revised neck collar vents and added vents in the EPS liner and it adds up to a more comfortable ride.
6. New redesigned chin strap for added comfort. The chin strap now comes with the ability to adjust it on both sides of the strap. The anchor point has been revised as well, creating less pressure on the throat. This point had been a concern for some users of the original C3. Another improvement on the chin strap is the micro lock buckle which provides a lower profile design.
7. Improved paint and graphics. The C3 pro features some new designs as far as the paint and graphics. One style is the “intensity” template featuring brilliant blue and white with metal flecked paint. Although this feature is purely for visual appeal, it really makes the helmet pop and separates it from the competition.

Schuberth C3 Helmet Pros:

Legendary Schuberth quality with new features. Schuberth has long been known as the Rolls Royce of motorcycle helmets. The C3 Pro takes it to a whole new level with the improved features and top of the line protection. The C3 Pro is number one among helmets and number two may be the original C3.

Extensive Warranty. When purchasing a premium product it is reasonable to expect the company to stand behind it. Schuberth does just that with a solid warranty, five years from date of purchase or seven years from date of manufacture. This means that when you purchase this product, there is no worry that something will be defective and the company will try to dodge responsibility.

Overall great feel. When putting this helmet on, it is obvious that it is a high quality product. Every feature fits perfectly together for a nearly flawless design. The snug fit makes it obvious from the start that the safety of this helmet is also going to be top notch.

Schuberth C3 Helmet Cons:

Ventilation is still imperfect. The ventilation on the C3 pro is good, but it could easily be great. It might take a slight redesign of the shell, but this helmet could definitely accommodate better ventilation which would make for a more comfortable ride. Perhaps this will be available in the next iteration.

High price point. The C3 pro will cost a fair amount for anyone looking to own an optimal helmet. Some versions of the helmet go for $800 or more. When looking solely for protection, a less expensive helmet may do the job, but customers looking for the total package in a helmet will have to drop some serious money.

Not enough liner sizes. The additional liners that are available are a great help to people with in-between head sizes. There are a lot of potential head sizes that are not addressed however. It would be nice in the future to see Schuberth release some extra shells to accommodate every possible size in their helmets.

Overall Star Rating: 5 out of 5

The Schuberth C3 pro is truly peerless. There are a few small details that could be improved upon, but it is really nitpicking due to the cost more than anything. When looking for the optimal helmet, look no further than the C3 pro.
