Sava MC 60 GETaWAY tyres have a unique feature that solves the dilemma of the adventure rider – dirt or road tyres?
Fit them one way and they are more suited to the road, reverse them and they are more suited to dirt.
These Sava tyres have a tread pattern with slightly oblong blocks that have a narrower gap between them on one end than the other. The narrow groove is better suited to increasing grip and reducing wear on the road. When fitted in reverse, the wide leading gap provides better dirt grip.
It resolves that age-old dilemma for adventure riders of whether they fit road or dirt-biased tyres.
Adventure tyres are always a compromise. You either get a tyre that lasts a long time but has low grip on the dirt or a tyre with high dirt grip but a short life – some as short as 3500km in my experience.
Now, for the price of refitting the tyres – unless you can do it yourself – you can get closer to that all-purpose tyre set-up.
Not only that, but at $145 for fronts and $195 for rears, they are cheaper than most of the tyres I’ve tried on my BMW R 1200 GS.
I haven’t tried them yet, so I can’t vouch for their grip or longevity.
Sava tyres are made in Savatech plant at Kranj, in Slovenia, and are not a brand we are familiar with in Australia. However, they are a subsidiary of the huge American tyre company, Goodyear.
The MC 60 comes in only two sizes – 150/70-17 and 110/80-19 – so it is suitable for adventure bikes such as the top-selling BMW R 1200 GS (but not the new “wasser boxer”), Yamaha XTZ1200 Tenere and the Suzuki V STROM 650 and 1000.
