Ruroc: Enginehawk is One Year Old!

It’s been a year since Ruroc’s stylish motorcycle gear brand hit the markets – and with the company’s commitment to solid gear (with style to complement the safety rating), there’s quite a lot to be impressed at.

“When we started Enginehawk, there were really only two options in our market; stylish clothing that lacked adequate protection for riding, or proper motorcycle clothing that lacked everyday style,” confesses James Kent, the design director at Enginehawk.

“That’s the gap we aspire to fill, we want to blend that line between riding gear and everyday clothing, focussing on ‘Ride and Wear’ jackets first and foremost. Our ultimate mission with Enginehawk is to create something that you forget you’re wearing – whether that’s on or off the bike.”

The gear has built a solid reputation on their commendable safety ratings: With units such as the MOTHER TRUCKER, 916 and .50 CAL jackets sporting CE-approved AA tear and abrasion-resistant materials (as well as SAS-TEC® Level 1 central back, elbow, and shoulder armor included), there is a jacket for every gent – and with hints from Enginehawk on the new women’s line of moto gear that’s set to debut next season, we’re excited to see how the Brit-based expands into today’s market.

“Joining the Ruroc team was a dream because I love function over fashion,” continues Kent in the brand’s most recent press release.

“Most manufacturers will take inspiration from a certain style or something that’s been iconic to them, and then they work to incorporate that functionality to suit their audience. Not here. We start at understanding the core functionality of being a motorcyclist, how they’re moving and what their requirements are, then the design process takes place.”
