It’s pretty rare to find a 30-odd-year-old bike in perfect condition, but even rare for it to have just 2 miles on the odometer!
That’s why this 1983 BMW R 100 RS Limited Edition is being tipped to sell for £11,000 to £13,000 ($A19,000-$22,600) at the H&H Classics Duxford sale on October 12 at the Imperial War Museum, Cambridgeshire.
Boxer Beemers from the 1980s are currently selling at high prices, mainly for custom bike builders to modify. But let’s hope that’s not the fate of this limited-edition bike.
You would be mad to customise this pristine gem which is number 10 of only 100 made.
It is completely new and unregistered with only 2 miles (3.2km) on the clock. It is described by H&H Director George Beale as being in “perfect condition”.
The bike stood for many years in a private Japanese museum before being consigned by H&H’s Japanese agent for sale at the H&H Classics Duxford auction.
“This model is considered to be one of the most practical long distant machines to this day,” George says.
“With a top speed of 125mph (200km/h) and it’s ability to maintain a cruising speed of 100mph (160km/h) for hours on end makes it a true BMW classic.
“Having completed only 3km and in perfect condition this is an ideal collectors item and excellent investment opportunity.”
