Pope’s Harley-Davidson to feed the poor

Pope Francis with the Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide

Pope Francis is auctioning a Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide to feed the poor.
It was donated to the Pope last year to mark the 110th anniversary of the iconic American brand.
The Super Glide, which features the Pope’s signature on its tank, will be auctioned by Bonhams at the Grand Palais, in Paris, on February 6 as part of Rétromobile Week.
It is estimated to fetch up to $22,000 and funds raised will go to Caritas Roma for renovation of their Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen based at Rome’s Termini railway station. It proves food and accommodation for more than 1000 needy people every day.
The hostel opened 30 years ago to help the homeless, jobless and the poor.

  1. Nice gesture BUT the Vatican is one of the biggest landholders in the world , I believe , and they aren’t exactly short of a dollar , they could easily fund this hostel and not even notice a blip on their bank account , but kudos to H D for the gesture .

    1. I agree Chris, yes he or his advisors more like it deserve the thanks for the donation but it’s a little bit of a shy or embarrassing gesture considering his financial worth. However, I DO NOT or am not meaning to take away from this donation which will ultimately help so many people regardless of where it came from.

  2. Well as with everything else that Pope Francis does, he always thinks of the poor.
He may be head of the Vatican but there are many levels in this vast city and he is not privy to everything, yet. Coming from a poor background himself, he is a priest first, then the Pope, and as such, people matter first before possessions. He has already gotten rid of a lot of the trimmings that go with his ‘job’ and wears plain black shoes instead of the traditional ‘pope shoes’ and uses a plain metal cross.
This soup kitchen and hostel would be close to his heart, so by obtaining the money for this bike, someone is blessed with a bike signed by the Pope and many are blessed by being fed..
