A sports tourer helmet at heart, the XT1 is one of your premium category helmets. The design of this helmet is a little different from other helmets in the same category. Nexx has opted for an angled approach in an upright position.
The helmet now comes with fairing all around the helmet, which is equivalent to a bumper, fenders, side-skirts as well as a rear bumper that you find on a tuner car. This has been done to ensure that the oncoming wind is deflected properly around the helmet. The design prevents any drag that would otherwise put a strain on your neck when you are trying to sit upright on a tourer while getting nearer to speed limits on highways. The extra advantage you get with this added fairing is that it does not buffet at higher speeds. Check price here.
The Nexx XT1 is fully compliant with DOT and ECE 22.05 ratings, so you get your peace of mind when it comes to safety.

Nexx has included a Micrometric chin strap for one handed operation. This is actually a useful thing in touring, but some people prefer the Double-Ds.
As a bonus, you get separate 2 mm and 4 mm pads to fit the occipital ridge to customize your fitting if you find your helmet too loose.
The Nexx XT1 is fully ready for the X-Com communication system that is actually recessed in the helmet as opposed to sticking out. Extra cut-aways for speakers allow you to choose your aftermarket speakers and fit them easily.
The Top Features to Look Out For
Sports-Tourer helmets usually arrive packed with a lot of features and functionality, and the XT1 is no exception. Here’s what you can look forward to.
Shell
The shape is long oval which is mostly found in racing helmets, made from multiaxial fiberglass, organic 3D fibers, Aramid fillings and carbon fiber. But considering that this is a sports tourer, Nexx has erred on the side of aerodynamics and worked on reducing the drag and upward lift.
At 3.04 pounds, this is one of the lighter helmets that you can get your hands on. If you need to go even lighter, there’s a carbon fiber version of this helmet available too which weighs a mere 3 lbs. 3 oz.
Nexx has 3 shell sizes available to you for choosing a perfect fit.
Visors
Helmet comes with Lexan heavy duty face shield with PinLock Maxvision included as a stock option. So you have a very wide field of view on highways and lanes.
It is a snap fit lock system at the chin and a spring-loaded button releases the locked visor from its default closed position. It does add a little time to open that face shield, but that is how Nexx intended it, apparently. The visor is surrounded with a nice gasket that really seals your head in.
The release mechanism is different from the regular press release ones. The face shield is a bit tricky to remove with a push-forward movement. Still it is better than the press release mechanism in which the button extrudes in the visor hole and needs to be pressed quite hard to release it.
Fog-free, scratch-resistant, 80% dark smoke, drop down sun visor is actually operated from the back of the helmet with a lever near the left venturi exhaust.

A chin vent at the front lets the air in along with two top vents placed very close to each other. All three vents can be opened or closed with a toggle for each. The toggle levers are small enough and pointed which make them easier to use with your gloves on.
Two rear vents at the back following the angled design and the winglet exhausts work surprisingly well in getting that warm, moist air out the back.
The 10 mm vent holes at the top connect with the EPS channels for an uninterrupted airflow which keeps functioning without problems.
Padding and Lining
Coolmax interior wicks up your sweat and has anti-microbial properties as well. This material is usually found in higher value helmets, and has a superior feel to it like ultra smooth velvet. It has properly positioned cut-aways that promote a considerable amount of air flow as is expected from any helmet in the premium category.
Removable chin curtain and emergency cheek pad removal system are nice features. The neck roll is not a separate piece. It is segmented according to the cheek pads and the rear neck adjust, so you do not have to fiddle with removing a one-piece before working on the cheek pads.
Customer Reviews
For a premium helmet like XT1, you would expect fewer complaints and a lot of praise. Unfortunately, most customers are concerned about the humming and whistling air noise in the helmet. This is because of the lever used to operate the sun visor.
The other complaint is the awkward opening mechanism for the face shield. People found it very unintuitive to work with.

The helmet has been crash tested and works to protect your head brilliantly, which is what it should. But the annoying wind noise and the face shield mechanism mars the overall experience. If the designers weed out these flaws in the next iteration, it might be well worth it to sink your money in.
