Nexx XD1 brings a familiar robustness and angular design of the XT-1, with an added peak for your off road needs and which puts this helmet up there in the dual sport category. The feature set of this helmet is jam packed enough that it can be worn in almost any situation, except probably the track. It has a peak, a face shield, a drop down sun visor, great aerodynamic design, edge-fairing and a nifty ventilation system that scream ‘multi-sport!’ most of the time.
And the features, combined with the build as well as DOT and ECE ratings quality really push this helmet in the premium category. Check price here.

There’s a peak now – a removable peak for peak on/peak off configuration. And then there’s also an extendable peak for blocking the sun. Double dos!
Three GoPro mounting points have been included for the camera obsessed. Two of them are enclosed within a recessed pod in the helmet near the ears on either side, and one on the top of the peak.
The helmet is pre-wired for the X-Com system which should accommodate your entertainment or communication unit on one of your longer runs.
Fast shot removal system for both the face shield and the peak. No fiddle. No diddle. Turn the knobs and out they come.
A ridge at the back in the construction helps with a goggle strap in case you want to put on an extra pair.
The Top Features to Look Out For
Looking at a premium offering from Nexx which tries to look out for all kinds of customers, it sure does have an impressive array of features in it.
Shell
The shell has an intermediate oval shape, so it should fit a lot of people just fine, as opposed to the long oval needed for people with higher forehead room needs. 3 lbs. 8 oz. weight for a helmet that is this feature-rich and premium is an instant buy for some people.
The shell is X-MATRIX, made with a composite of carbon fiber, fiber glass, Aramid inserts reinforced with Dyneema. All that making your head that much safer. Available in solid colors as well as attractive graphics.
Visors
A PinLock ready face shield comes with compatible posts for a ready fit. So when you buy that optically correct, fog-resistant PinLock insert lens, you can be sure to just install and forget. The face shield comes down on a snap-fit extrude just near the top of the chin vent which is extremely easy to operate.
It is expected that you are going to be riding in all kinds of weather, so you need protection from wind, rain, hair, mud, dust and other gook that might splat on your face shield and has a tendency to leak inside. Luckily, the face shield sits on a gasket that seals your face in completely.
The drop down, wide sun visor stays clear of your nose line and is easily operated with a slider near your top left Venturi exhaust.

A chin vent with a toggle takes care of your main air input. There’s also a mesh-foam included in the box that allows you to switch modes and turn this lid in a complete dirt configuration. Chimney vents with on-off sliders are your secondary inlets. Two Venturi exhausts make sure that the air inside the shell is extracted out properly.
When you remove the comfort liner, you will immediately notice that the EPS has extensive channeling as well as lots of strategically placed 10 mm vent holes that create an impressive airflow over the top of your head.
Padding and Lining
CoolMax 3D inner lining and materials keep the lid comfortable, while wicking away your sweat and protecting from microbes for a dry, pleasant experience. The fabric has a nice microfiber feel to it which is very easy on your skin and scalp.
A removable breath guard is included with the lid to prevent your breath from fogging up the lens too quick (in case you are hesitant to order the PinLock separately).
Emergency cheek pad removal system – red straps allow the ENTs to pull off the cheek pads with one quick swipe.
The Ergo system included within the box has extra 2mm and 4mm pads that you can insert where the existing padding is for adjusting the fit as snugly as possible.
Comfort liner comes off very easily and has fixtures near the brow and at the neck to avoid creating any pressure points.
Customer Reviews
A lot of customers are satisfied by the way this helmet is constructed and most of them loved the X-Com and GoPro readiness of the lid. The ratings vary in the 4 to 4.7 band out of 5, which indicate some issues, but none of them serious enough to discourage them from buying. The major grip for many of them was the fact that a PinLock lens is not included as a default in the box at this price point.
