New models released at INTERMOT

Motorcycle manufacturers will unveil a host of new models at the INTERMOT and EICMA motorcycle shows over the next two months.

INTERMOT in Cologne starts tomorrow (October 4, 2016) and already we know there will be several new sports bikes. Honda will unveil their new CBR1000RR Fireblade, while Yamaha will reveal their R6 and Suzuki will have a small-capacity sports bike.

The show is held every second year, so this year it clashes with the annual EICMA show in November in Milan.

We’re not sure which shows manufacturers will chose to launch their new models, but it is likely they will share the unveilings across both.

GERMANY VERSUS ITALY

However, we expect national pride may influence the unveilings.

German manufacturer BMW said it will premiere two new models and several “substantial” redesigns at INTERMOT in Cologne.

KTM of Austria is also tipped to favour Cologne for the launch of their anticipated 390 Adventure model.

The adventure class will also see its first scooter when Honda unveils their new X-ADV.

Italian manufacturers, such as revived brand FB-Mondial with its Hipster 125, will bias their unveilings to EICMA.

Ducati is tipped to reveal a host of new models, so it can spread them out across the two shows.

Their INTERMOT reveal will be highlighted by the return of the Supersport name, plus a Supersport S model. They will also show a Multistrada S, technical and colour updates to the other Multistradas, and new colours and Euro 4-compliant engines in the Monster 821 and Diavel.

That means EICMA will debut the introductory 939 Multistrada and new 1299 Panigale and perhaps more versions of their popular Scrambler, including a 1200cc model.

Speaking of scramblers, Triumph may unveil their Street Twin Scrambler and Moto Guzzi may show a V7 scrambler.

INTERMOT will also feature several electric bikes and scooters, including the updated BMW c Evolution scooter with greater range.

The show hosts 1127 motorcycles and accessories exhibitors from 41 countries. New model presentations will come from BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Horex, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco, the Piaggio Group, Polaris, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha.

CUSTOM BIKE BUILD-OFF

For the first time, INTERMIT will add a world custom bike building competition. It will have a display of 99 custom machines from 75 builders in 26 countries.

They will compete for a championship ring. It is handcrafted in England by Alabaster & Wilson in 18ct gold, with diamonds and black onyx.
