New York rider Shaun Lee has started making an innovative waxed-cotton tail bag for motorcycles even before he has raised all the necessary funds through a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign.
The 12-litre tail bag fits on most motorcycle rear seats with a simple under-seat strap system, roll-down waterproof top and zippers, and a cargo net to fit bulkier items.
The crowd-funding campaign launched on September 12 and already has more than 75% of its $US800 funding target.
“We already fronted most of the production cost from our savings, so the tail bags are already in production,” Shaun says.
Delivery to crowd funders will start in October with retail sales following. The bag sells online for $US130.
“Two years ago, my wife and I started this brand out of our love for motorcycles, good design, and the desire to make products we want and need for riding,” Shaun says.
“By spending a lot of time with fellow motorcyclists, and obsessively combing the market, we discovered a total lack of gear specific to city riders.
“The 12L Cargo Tail Bag speaks to the every need of a city rider: waterproof, expandable storage, hidden compartments, durable construction and all the performance of an expedition style bag without looking like it just came off of an adventure bike,” Shaun says.
The tail bag is designed to work with a wide variety of motorcycles, without requiring a specialised rack system.
The attachment straps affix to any secure section of your bike.
“In the future we will be offering additional strap varieties to work with specific motorcycles,” Shaun says.
“As a lifetime rider with many years of bag design experience between my wife and I, we feel pretty confident in this product.”
