Winter put a dampener on road bike and cruiser sales which had been scorching hot at the start of the year.
In the nine months to the end of winter, sales of road bikes were up only 0.8% to 31,401 while off-road bikes have surged to 10.7%, the biggest beneficiary being KTM up 28.9% to 5068.
Sales are down -7.5% in ATVs (14,968) and scooters continue to struggle at -11.9% (6952), according to the latest statistics from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.
The industry is up just 0.8% to 79,949 to the end of September.
The good news is that spring has arrived, many motorcycle companies are offering discounts and incentives, and sales will start to heat up again. The even better news is that a lot of the best-selling bikes are learner bikes which means a new generation of riders is coming through.
Top seller in the market is still the Kawasaki Nina 300 LAMS bike despite a short stall in sales while the company resolved an issue with stalling on deceleration.

The Ninja 300 helped Kawsaki leapfrog Suzuki into third place with a 15.8% growth to 8501 sales.
Top of the sales is again Honda with a slight 1.4% drop to 17,286 ahead of Yamaha up 2.9% to 14,133.
Cruisers are still doing good business with Harley-Davidson up 6.5% to 5779 in fourth place and Victory up 12.7% to 364.
Chinese ATV and motorcycle importer CFMoto continues to impress with a 9.4% ride to 1824, ahead of BMW, up 11% to 1650 and in 10th place.
Despite the drop in scooter sales, quality scooter importers such as Piaggio are recording strong growth, up 3.3% to 1150, as many cheap Asian imports disappear from the market.
