Motorcycle Clothing Sizes and Conversion Charts Can Help You Find The Right Size Helmet

The information on this page can help you find the correct size for motorcycle clothing, but remember that manufacturers really don’t seem to have a good standard that is used for motorcycle clothing, so these charts should be used only as a general guideline.

Finding Your Helmet Size

Use a cloth tape measure to measure the widest part of your head, usually just over your ears. Don’t wrap the tape too tightly. Take several measurements, this is a tricky area to measure correctly. Your measurement in inches or centimeters can be converted into a helmet size using this chart. Remember to always try on the helmet first!  These sizes are only meant as a general guideline — every helmet style and manufacturer may have a different interpretation of sizes.

Helmet manufacturers use different outer “shell” sizes also. It’s cheaper for them to use a single shell, but these means that the smaller helmet head sizes can give you the “mushroom head” look, because there’s too much foam and padding to make up the difference.

Conversely, the larger helmet head sizes may have padding that is too thin. Human head shapes come in the so-called “long oval”, round, “earth” shape (widest part in the middle circumference) and all combinations. Try on helmets before you buy, and walk around the shop for a good while to make sure it will be comfortable. Try on various brands and models; each one may fit differently. Try on the next smaller and larger sizes. Remember that helmet should fit very snugly and will stretch a bit over time.

Finding Your Glove Size

Using a measuring tape, measure around the palm of your hand at the widest point, excluding your thumb. This chart is a rough guide. Remember, each manufacturer or style may have a different fit, so check their website or literature for particular sizing information.
