A recent pre-summer hot spell has been the perfect occasion to heat test the Macna Saber gloves.
They are part of the European company’s new range of 16 summer gloves in eight different styles ranging from racing gauntlets to short road and dual-sport gloves.
We heat-tested the short and stylish Macna Saber gloves at $119.95.
Saber gloves may look stylish, but they don’t seem to lack for protection. They come with R.I.S.C. hard knuckles, double thickness leather in vulnerable areas and an adjustable velcro strap so they won’t come off in a crash.
They’re also very comfortable with curved fingers and thumb and a very soft goat leather construction.
Inside is a soft liner made of Bemberg which is a regenerated fibre made from cotton lint. It not only makes them feel ultra-soft, but easier to pull on and off, even when your hands or the gloves are damp.
All of this means you can ride all day without the Saber gloves feeling uncomfortable or bunching in your palms.
While Saber gloves are not waterproof, when you do get them wet, you don’t end up with black hands.
Saber heat protection
As for the most important aspect of summer gloves – heat protection – the Saber gloves have plenty of small pin-prick perforations.
As you would expect, they have them on the backs of the fingers, but they also have them on both sides of the wrist and even in the palms.
You can feel the air flowing over these areas, but the holes could be a little bigger for more airflow.
However, there is a compromise between airflow and the integrity of the leather. Bigger holes would make them more likely to rip in a crash.
A lot of short summer gloves are just too short and leave a gap between your jacket cuff and the gloves where you can get sunburnt.
These Saber gloves are a little longer and don’t leave that gap.
For those who use GPS, mobile phone or motorcycle instrument touchscreens, Saber gloves have a “Touch Tip” in the finger tips so you can operate these screens.
Macna Saber gloves come in black only in men’s sizes S-4XL.
