The drive to hire top-tier IT tech is a global trend in today’s markets; after all, what better way to keep up with your competitors than by hiring employees skilled in the newest digital software to forward your brand name?
India, in particular, is gunning to be the biggest IT hub in the world – but in order to get to where they need to be, they’re apparently in need of an estimated 213,000 AI and data specialists.
The big question is this:
How do you land the right kind of person mid-interview?
By offering a BMW motorcycle as a sign-on bonus, apparently.
Currently, US companies are building teams in India “for better access to talent;” one American brand in particular – Flexcar – has been trying to integrate ChatGPT as a chatbot for their clientele, and they’ve been desperate to build the right team for the job.
“Freedom Dumlao, the chief technology officer of Flexcar, interviewed an engineer who claimed to already have an offer,” explains the coverage from Business Today.
“The competitor offered him a BMW motorcycle as a sign-on bonus, which Dumlao didn’t want to match.”
Understandably, not everybody can afford to chuck a Beemer at the new employees with the promise of a rosy company future… but if there were ever a brand that advertised luxury on two wheels, BMW would be up there.
Probably a good thing that they didn’t go for a Honda Monkey in the sign-on bonus, then.
With India’s talent crunch projected to condense even further to keep up with AI advancements, we look forward to hearing about more sign-on incentives.
