Even before a full bike has been unveiled, Indian has sold 111 bikes in Australia.
And as a reward, the factory has allocated more bikes from the Australian launch date in August.
Indian Motorcycle Australia country manager Peter Harvey says the response has been overwhelming.
“We had anticipated that there was a latent interest for Indian Motorcycles, but had no idea that we would be announcing so soon that our first 111 bikes would be pre-sold. It is really inspirational to see so many bikers interested in the return of Indian and the response so far has been really positive.”
The 111 riders who have placed a deposit for the coming bike are known as the “One-Eleven Originals”. They will be among the guests invited to the Australian unveiling which will coincide with the world unveiling at the 73rd annual Sturgis Rally in South Dakota sometime between August 5-11.
So far we only know what the engine looks like, that it has 111 cubic inches in capacity and the bike will cost a competitive $28,995 ride-away. However, a teaser video of the bike has shown that it is long and low with mini pullback bars, dual exhausts, the traditional Indian head on the front fender, lots of chrome even on the switchblock, cruise control, ABS, dual front brake discs, a black frame, antique “grandfather clock” style instruments on the tank, engine bars and big floorboards.
