Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitilen grounded

Riders of 2018-20 Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen 701 motorcycles have been grounded for seven weeks over a potential fuel leak issue.

The official notice issued through the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on 21 May 2020 said owners should “immediately contact an authorised dealer and do not ride the vehicle”.

However, parts to fix the problem were not available, so riders were effectively grounded.

Today (13 July 2020), Husqvarna Australia has announced that replacement tanks are now available.

The old tanks were likely to leak “due to possible unevenness in the area of the sealing surface between the tank and fuel pump as well as tank and fuel level sensor”, they say.

“The improved tanks have an increased wall thickness to correct this deviation.”

Customers who own one of the affected motorcycles are being informed by a personal letter and asked to immediately contact an authorised Husqvarna Motorcycles dealer to arrange an appointment for inspection and replacement.

All work by authorised Husqvarna Motorcycles dealers will be carried out at no cost to Vitpilen 701, Svartpilen 701 and Svartpilen 701 Style owners.

In addition, all Husqvarna owners can check online in the ‘Service’ area of Husqvarna Motorcycles’ website to determine if their motorcycle is affected by this recall.

“During operation or while parked, it is possible that fuel can leak out of the fuel level sensor mounting area and/or the fuel pump mounting area of the fuel tank,” the ACCC notice says.
