This Panhead chopper was built for The Horse Backstreet Choppers Amateur Chop-Off in 2009. It started with a neat and narrow rigid frame from Robert Elswick and a driveline consisting of a ’78 Shovel motor with an STD panhead top end, a 5 speed Harley Davidson transmission, and a 1.5? BDL belt drive. To keep everything aligned and hold an electric starter I used a mid 90’s inner primary but shaved off every once of aluminum that it could spare using a vertical mill. The front end is was built with some laser cut parts from Fab Kevin and a lot of manual machining. Before one piece of steel was cut it was designed using our CADD program to create a model. There isn’t too much else that isn’t made by hand, most of the shiny pieces are polished stainless steel; including the exhaust, oil lines, struts, foot pedals, and jockey shift. The tank and fender are aluminum that was sandblasted and half painted so that it would look like it was sand cast.
