Gold bling for Ducati Monster 1200 R

A layer of 24K gold bling has been added to the frame of this one-off Ducati Monster 1200 by Munich-based custom cycle shop Diamond Atelier.

There is no word on how much the bike would cost.

If bling is your thing, this is no match for the bling of the recent  $A2.4 million ($US1.8m, €1.5m, £1.3m) Harley-Davidson Softail Blue Edition by Swiss workshop Bündnerbike.

It features gold-plated screws, 360 diamonds and two safes in the fuel tank.

Yet it is still not the world’s most expensive motorcycle.

That “honour” goes to eccentric American artist Jack Armstrong whose “Cosmic Starship” Harley-DavidsonV-Rod sold to the Moran family of California for $US3m in 2012.

Priced at USD one million, this is the world's first and only million dollar Harley. Armstrong was a protege of Andy Warhol and his paintings retail for 300K to 2M USD. But back to the gold Monster.Gold Diamond-Atelier Ducati Monster 1200 R bling-1

It was commissioned by a Frankfurt rider who gave the workshop free rein … and obviously a bottomless wallet!

So the frame was layered in gold leaf by Diamond Atelier employee, Korbinian, who was a trainee gilder before joining the German custom house.Gold Diamond-Atelier Ducati Monster 1200 R bling-1

Over the past 25 years the Monster has been a customiser’s favourite.

But apart from the gold bling and olive paintwork, most of the work on this is simply bolt-on parts, mainly from Rizoma.

The only customising is the 3D-printed tailpiece and hand-stitched leather seat.Gold Diamond-Atelier Ducati Monster 1200 R bling-1

Not that the Monster 1200 R needs much work since the 152hp bike comes with a Termignoni exhaust, Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes.
