Don’t got to Gatton for the annual Historic Motorcycle Club of Queensland Gatton Swap meet in October.
If you do, you’ll be in the wrong place because the venue has been changed to Laidley Showgrounds since a large aquatic centre is being built at the Gatton Showgrounds.
However, Judith Holzigal of the Toowoomba branch of the HMC CQ says the Laidley Showgrounds has “great amenties and off road parking” and is only 16km east of Gatton.
Gates open at 6am on Saturday October 26 and the $10 entry fee ($15 for vendors) includes overnight camping. If you come on the Sunday only, it’s $5.
There is also camping at Lake Dyer 4km to the west or at the Mulgowie pub 15km south.
In the meantime, the Toowoomba Cluv is hosting the Rally in the Valley on September 7-8 at the Murphy Creek Community Hall and recreational field.
As this is the Historical Motorcycle Club of Queensland, participation is limited to pre-1983 motorcycles. Camping is $10 each and registration starts at 11am.
Showers are available, but there are no powered sites or under-cover camping.
There will be rides both days (Saturday at 1pm and Sunday at 9am) suitable for all bikes.
Saturday dinner, and Sunday breakfast, smoko and lunch are included with registration.
