Motocross is a serious sport, not for the faint of heart. But that should not mean the strong of heart should behave like a jumping jack without protection. The Fox Racing V3 Kustm helmet should help you keep your head intact when you are up there on the ramps trying to pull off death-defying stunts. So, Johnny Blaze, let’s look at the thing that is going to protect your ‘skull’.
At a first glance, this helmet looks like the head of a hawk or an eagle with its beak ready to snatch its prey in a split second. It is the ‘peak’, not the beak that gives this helmet its unique look. Check price here.
Anyway, Fox has managed to keep the design simple, yet stylish. It has a nice, streamlined shape that offers minimum resistance when you are testing the limits of your bike in the country.
Armed with ECE 22.05 and DOT certifications, you can be certain that this lid will do its job with sincerity.

Fox has integrated a Magnet Visor Release System (MVSR) in this helmet now. Instead of using clips, straps, nuts, bolts or rivets, what they have done is used magnetic mounts. So in case of a crash, the visor comes off quite easily while you’re busy rubbing your nose on the ground. Furthermore, you can snap it back on if it has not cracked or has its integrity impaired in any way due to that crash.
The helmet is also equipped with a Multi-Directional Impact Protection System or MIPS, a technology that is being adapted by many helmet makers. It protects your brain from any violence resulting from a rotational impact. It actually consists of a low-friction layer between the shell and the head. This layer is just like the brain’s protective fluid which exists between itself and the skull to absorb angled impacts.
Fox has a bonus for anyone ordering this helmet. They have made a matching gear set available as well. So you have a one-stop-shop-solution at your fingertips if you order online.
The Top Features to Look Out For
For a helmet which is designed to rough it all, it should not cut you out on any features. Here’s what Fox has to offer.
Shell
The Fox Racing V3 Kustm Helmet is an actual upgrade over the earlier V3 helmets. They have upped their game and chosen a different multi-composite material for the 2018 V3 making it lighter than the previous versions.
Available in 4 cup sizes as well as 4 EPS sizes, there is plenty of ‘headroom’ for you to find your precise fitting.
The Racing V3 helmet comes in four colors as your primary choice with the same graphic on each. The quality of the graphic is also cool, with two ‘foxes’ splatted on either side of the helmet wing and accent lines depicting a ‘speedy’ feeling.

The peak on this helmet has a very aerodynamic outline, with two extra large cut-outs with a central small one. This ensures stability of the helmet at high speeds.
Fox has a handy upgrade to the visors in the form of the MVRS or Magnetic Visor Release System, which saves you from cursing the gods if it comes off in a face first crash. Instead of the three visor screws that held the visor in place and snapped it off when you crashed, you now have three magnets that secure the helmet in face. Worry not though; the magnets are strong enough to keep the lid in place at atrocious velocities.
Ventilation
14 intakes and 4 exhausts take care of the air coming in and going out. This is on top of the open face you get with this helmet.
A large pentagonal chin vent is responsible for letting the air in. There are two extra inlets right on top the chin vent that divert the air across your face. The combined shape has a pentagon-reverse-pentagon shape that works well with the aggressive Sub-Zero nose design that the lid is supposed to exude. Two jaw line inlets add more airflow over your jaw areas.
There are five brow vents, two upper and three lower ones on the helmet body. The upper two connect to the channels that lead to the exhausts and the lower three cool your forehead. Two top vents also blow the incoming air on your scalp to keep the top of your head cool.
Two Exhaust vents at the top back and two at the bottom near the winglet area remove all this stifling air out using the Venturi effect and keep things nice and cool.
Padding and Lining
A Drilex Comfort Liner wicks your sweat away and keeps you dry for the most part. The pads and comfort liner are perforated enough to keep the air flow constant. Still, the material feels very soft against the skin and should not bother you for extended Moto sessions.
Customer Reviews
Many customers find this an attractive piece. But in all their honesty a few of them complained about the quality of plastic used beneath the helmet for the brow vents. There were no other negative remarks.

This is a wonderful helmet for Motocross. It is strong and durable with a detachable peak and should last you long enough before you think about the V4 or V5.
