Switches for headlights and indicators could fail if water gets into the controls of the Triumph Street Triple R, RS and R (low seat) models, prompting Triumph Motorcycle Australia to issue a recall.
The recall notice issued through the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says the electrical circuits in the left-hand switch cube may not function correctly due to an incorrect seal.

Triumph Street Triple RS switches“If water penetrates the seal, the turn signal indicator and headlamp control switches may not function correctly,” it says.
“If the turn signal indicator does not function correctly, other motorists may not know the motorcycle operator’s intent.
“If the headlamp does not activate, the ability for other motorists to detect the motorcycle, and the operator’s forward visibility, may be reduced. In both cases, there is an increased risk of a vehicle crash.”
Owners have been advised to have their bike inspected at an authorised Triumph dealer “as soon as possible” to have the switches replaced with a new version.

Even though manufacturers and importers contact owners when a recall is issued, the bike may have been sold privately to a rider unknown to the company.

In Australia, recall notices are issued by the manufacturer and the Department of Infrastructure through a voluntary industry code under the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
While any recall is not good news for the manufacturer, it shows that they are largely diligent in fixing problems.
