Often called the “Tesla of motorbikes”, Italian firm Energica has unveiled its third model, the retro Eva EsseEsse9.
Unlike most electric bikes which look modern or even futuristic, this looks quite classy and could almost be mistaken for one of the new breed of retro bikes.
It seems retro is the new cool.
There has been a wave of modern retro machines launched in the past few years. They include the BMW R nineT, Ducati Scrambler, new Triumph Bonnevilles, Kawasaki Z900RS, Yamaha SCR900 and Suzuki SV650X.
Eva EsseEsse9
The Eva EsseEsse9 features wired wheels, scramblers slightly knobby tyres, round single headlight, ribbed bench seat and MX-style handlebars.
However, that’s where the retro stops.
Apart from an electric engine, it has modern features such as double Brembo discs with switchable ABS, monoshock and LED lighting.
The Eva EsseEsse9 joins the fared Ego and Eva sports bikes with the same 80kW Permanent Magnet AC electric motor.
It has a 11.7 kWh battery pack for up to 150km (93 miles) of combined highway and city driving range or 200km (125 miles) if you use the lower powered ECO mode.
Top speed is 200km/h (125mph).
Energica has confirmed it will also be offered with a new more powerful 107 kW electric motor.
All Energica bikes can accept CCS DC fast-charging which charges to 85% from flat in 30 minutes.
There is no word yet on price or target markets outside of Europe. However, the current (pun intended) lineup is not cheap, starting at €22,000 ($A33,500, $US25,000).
