Ok, that heading may be a little misleading. Bikers owned by the stars of the 1969 cult classic film, Easy Rider, are up for auction; not the actual bikes in the movie.
Three of the original bikes were stolen and the bike that was crashed in the final scene was restored by Grizzly Adams star Dan Haggerty. The best replicas I’ve seen are in the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.
Meanwhile, several motorcycles from the estate of the late, great actor Dennis Hopper who was also Easy Rider director will be offered at the fifth annual Bonhams Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction in Bally’s casino on January 8.
They include a 2003 Indian Chief and a 2006 Harley-Davidson VRSC “V-Rod”. In keeping with the inseparable link forged between Hopper and Easy Rider co-star, a special edition 2007 MV Agusta F4-1000R superbike has been consigned by Peter Fonda.
Last year’s Bonhams auction set several world records and next year’s promises the same.
Among the highlights are a 1971 Ducati Desmo 450 “Silver Shotgun” and 1995 Ducati Supermono from the legendary Silverman Museum Racing collection.
There is also a Harley-Davidson XR750 like Evel Knievel rode. It comes from an extensive, private collection of Harleys.
