Ducati might soon be powering small VW 4-wheelers.
It is believed Ducati’s 143kW 1199 Panigale engine will be installed in VW’s XL1 plug-in hybrid supercar (right).
The two-seater concept currently has a small 800cc diesel engine and electric motor.
Since Audi bought Ducati last year for $1.2b there have been many rumours about how the two companies would utilise each other’s technologies.
Latest thinking is that the powerful superquadro engine from the Panigale (left) could be used in the hybrid supercar made by VW, the parent company of Audi.
The rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive hybrid supercar is expected to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next year.
