It may be the last thing the Australian Labor government does, but it is one of their best moves.
Service stations are now no longer allowed to advertise the discount price of fuel.
Three cheers for Fair Trading Minister Anthony Albanese (a politician who also recognises the value of motorcycles to easing traffic and parking problems).
They also have to advertise the octane rating on all pumps. See my story here about dirty fuel, ethanol and octane ratings.
Now it’s up to us as motorist to ensure the servos do the right thing.
If you see one that doesn’t have octane ratings or advertises the discount price when it isn’t available to everyone, dob them in here or contact your state Fair Trading Office.
