Riders who suffer from swollen and aching legs after sitting for a long time own their motorcycle should consider getting compression socks.
Compression socks are often used in hospitals for bed-bound patients and they are also handy for long-distance air travel t prevent deep-vein thrombosis (DVT).
However, they can also be useful for long-distance riders to keep the blood in the veins of your legs return to your heart. This will reduce swelling and ease aches and pains.
Another great advantage of compression socks is that they stay up which is often a problem for riders with long boots that tend to push socks down.
Motochic compression socks
American motorcycle clothing and accessories company Motochic sent us a set of their compressions socks that feature little motorcycles on the pattern which is kinda cute.
The knee-high socks cost $US18 for one pair or 2 pair for $35, or 3 for $45 plus shipping (free in the USA).
They come in men’s 10-13 and women’s 9-11 in black and grey.
The socks are made of 80% polyamide, 19% elastic and 1% spandex and can be machine washed in cold water and tumble dried on low heat.
I’ve worn gradient compression socks before that were supplied by a hospital after a motorcycle crash and I’ve also bought them from an hiking store.
I found both were difficult to put on because they are so tight at the ankle. These seems to slide on much easier, although they are still fairly tight at the ankle.
The other socks also wore out quite quickly with my big toe poking through.
These have been used extensively and have still not developed any holes.
I usually wear Bamboo Textile socks while riding for their comfort and the fact they don’t smell even after a few days of constant wearing. We sell them in our online shop.
Even though the Motochic socks are made with a moisture-wicking polyamide fabric to reduce odour and inhibit fungus and bacteria, they don’t stay fresh as long as the bamboo Textiles socks.
However, the Motochic socks are also quite comfortable, they are quicker to dry and they stay up longer.
