Cheaters Proof is a 45ci 42 WLA Flathead bobber by Rich Phillips who began personalizing it by stretching the frame 2” in the rear and lowering it by an inch-and-a-half. Rich has no regrets about chopping the bike rather than restoring it, stating: “I have no desire to restore anything,” and “If I wanna do something to a bike, I want to make it custom.” Rick also, he fabricated his own leaf-spring front end and for the tank he split a Paughco tank down the middle to make 2 side tanks, with the backbone running through the middle. “I really love the shape of this tank,” he said. “It wound up fitting perfect so I ended up using some round rod on the top of the tank to fill in the gap. It kind of has a hot rod appeal to it.” The oil tank is made from a piece of 4” round stainless tubing capped on the top and bottom. He added a 34mm round slide Mikuni carb, but kept the 3-speed stock tranny. Rich of course hand tooled the seat and did all his own paint as well.
