CAKE, among experimenting with paper-based fairings and being an all-around advocate for our sustainable Powersports future, has just released their first, their most powerful MX-inspired production model: The Bukk.
If you recall, this bike was previously a limited edition beastie; now that the zero-emission machine is a full-out electric production bike, we get two variants – Super Light and Power Light.
According to Top Speed, the Super Light and Power Light variants display 270lb-ft, 13 peak kW, and a 50mph top speed, while the latter boasts 336lb-ft, 16kW, and 56mph, respectively; both variants use the ‘Jante’ motor, an interior permanent magnet (IPM) unit with radial flux setup and a dual-bearing shaft in which offers “optimal efficiency, power output, and reliability, with smoother acceleration for better control lower in the rev range.”
Included in each Bukk will be a 2.9kWh battery pack, removable without tools (dare we call it swappable?) and able to take the bike through “3 hours of trail riding” with a full charge in the same amount of time.
As for the MX inspo, we have the list of prime componentry here:
- 19/18-inch (F/R) aluminum motocross wheels
- off-road-spec knobby rubber
- single petal disc brakes
- Formula Tech upside-down forks (fully adjustable) with 270 mm of travel
- RacingBros monoshock (fully adjustable) with 297mm of travel
“… the party trick is that you can opt for top-shelf WP XACT Pro forks (278 mm travel) up top and couple it with either an Ohlins S46 or WP XACT Pro 8946 shock outback–for extra money, of course,” continues Punya Sharma.
“If that’s not MX-ready enough for you, there’s also 965 mm of seat height and 350 mm of ground clearance. For reference, the KTM 350 SX-F has 359 mm of GC and ~300 mm of travel.”
What do you think? Is the CAKE Bukk getting closer to that ICE-vs-electric threshold?
