Buell returning to small-scale production

Erik Buell Racing (EBR) is expected to return to low-volume production as early as March, after having recently completed protracted business restructuring that began last April when they closed their doors.

Australian EBR importers Urban Moto Imports has confirmed that the innovative manufacturer will begin making bikes soon and that Erik is keen to recommence business with UMI.

“There’s nothing official to us yet, but as far as we know they are still keen do business with us,” says UMI CEO Joseph Elasmar.

“We have a meeting with them in the next few weeks. We are one of the biggest markets for EBR outside of America and Erik said he is still very excited about Australia.”

Michigan company Liquid Asset Partners now owns the EBR 2012 – 2015 model parts inventory, brand name, trademarks, patents, operating licenses, testing equipment, assembly lines and all future models under development.

“Erik told me in an email that they are returning to low-volume production starting soon and they are looking at equity investors and buyers and the best loan financing options to start higher-volume production,” Joseph says.

He confirms that there are very few EBR models still available in Australia and New Zealand, but some are very good buying because dealers have dropped prices in the wake of the EBR financial troubles.

Some bikes such as the RX are being sold for around $20,000 but have a replacement value of more than $30,000.

“Smart buyers should buy now,” he advises.

Joseph confirms that EBR spare parts are available again and warranty issues are being handled on a “case-by-case” basis.
