There aren’t many repair or maintenance books left that can help guide you through all you need to know to maintain older BMW’s. This book is an “update” (last published in 1978!)of the original Clymer manual for BMW’s to 1969.
The photos and line drawings are obviously old but very clear (I wish more modern manuals had the same quality of photos!) and guides you through just about everything you need to know to maintain one of these old beauties.
BMW’s of this vintage are relatively easy to maintain and repair, and this is reflected in the length of the book — only 144 pages, but nevertheless, I believe it includes about everything you’d need to know to restore or maintain one.
By the way, there are also several “exploded” drawings showing how various parts are assembled; there’s a short chapter on restoration in the back of the book that has some original photos of BMW’s of this era; and there’s an appendix with specifications of the various models. In summary: good, clear, concise. It’s also a great reference to have if you just want to know what makes the older BMW’s tick!
This book must still be popular, as Clymer republished a batch of them in 1998.
