BMW’s 1,800cc Boxer Twin Specifics Revealed

BMW Boxer Twin

The Biggest Boxer Yet

If the 1,800cc boxer twin that BMW has had in the works for a while interests you, and the concept bikes that the engine has been displayed on have gotten your blood pumping, then you’ll be happy to know that BMW has revealed specifics about the engine. The company has kept the engine under wraps until recently.

BMW has confirmed that the engine will go into production sometime in 2020. The engine actually has a displacement of 1,802cc and the cylinders have a 107mm bore and a 100cc stroke. There are aluminum pistons. The engine weighs 244.3 pounds with the transmission and intake intact.

It gets an overhead valve design with a dual camshaft set-up. The crankshaft gets an additional bearing to keep vibrations to a minimum. The engine will produce 91 hp and 116.5 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. Max rpm for the mill is 5,750 rpm. If you want to read the full press release, click here.

BMW will without a doubt be able to sell bikes with this engine in it. The engine is glorious to look at and a beautiful addition to a cruiser motorcycle design. I’m a little surprised, though, that it doesn’t make a little more power. I was expecting it to produce over 100 hp, but 91 is still quite a lot. Can’t wait to ride a bike with this big lump in it.
