When the going gets tough, the tough get going to the BMW GS Safari-Enduro.
The first enduro version of the popular GS Safari was held last year in the cold and wet Victorian high country. Owing to its popularity, it is returning in July, but in the hot and dry north of Australia. The eight-day 3500km ride from Darwin to Port Douglas is being labelled the Ultimate Adventure Ride.
The Safari-Enduro is one of three safaris BMW Motorrad Australia will conduct this year. The TS Safari will be held in Tasmania from November 2 to 8 with a special anniversary dinner on the Saturday evening. It will be combined with the GS riders who start their Safari in Tassie on November 8 and finish on November 14.
The Safari-Enduro from July 13-21 includes iconic locations such as Mataranka Springs, Katherine Gorge, Karumba in the Gulf Country and the magnificent Daintree Rainforest. As usual, there will be a support crew and high-quality accommodation. However, being a remote tour, riders will camp out three nights and receive a BMW Safari branded swag as a souvenir. Prior to leaving Darwin, there will be an optional off-road training course where participants can brush up on their skills. BMW Motorrrad Australia marketing manager Miles Davis says places for the outback experience are “strictly limited and they will fill quickly”.
