Black Dog Ride’s $1m honour

BDRThe annual Black Dog Ride has passed the $1 million mark in funds raised for mental health support services in the past four years.
It began as a solo motorbike ride around Australia by Steve Andrews and has now become a national event with riders coming from around the country to converge on Alice Springs.
The money raised has assisted the Suicide Call Back Service (Crisis Support Services), Lamp Inc, The Black Dog Institute, Lifeline, and Mental Health First Aid.
Steve says he is thrilled with raising more than $1 million.
Raising funds for mental health services wasn’t a priority on his inaugural ride, but he still managed to raise more than $34,000 for the Suicide Call Back Service. In 2012 he was awarded a Pride of Australia honour.
This year, funds raised by the riders go directly to Lifeline Australia and Mental Health First Aid.
The Ride to the Red Centre departs from all states and territories on Saturday August 17, arriving in Alice Springs on Thursday August 22.
If you need urgent help or support, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
