Arai RX Q Helmet Review: Street Helmet Inspired By Racer Helmet Design

Arai RX Q Helmet

The handmade Arai helmets are designed to meet exceptional safety standards. All types of Arai helmets sold in the USA have Snell approval, which is not always easy to obtain. Many helmets in the USA are sold without Snell certification. The stringent requirements of Snell standards are hard to meet, and that is why Snell certified helmet designs are widely sought after by safety conscious riders.

The Arai helmets have been rated as the best for ventilation, styling, and overall satisfaction. Arai has consistently stood first in customer satisfaction in the studies for ten years.

The Arai RX Q helmets review unveils the important features of the helmets that bring value for your money.

Benefits

The RX Q helmets from Arai are designed to be the best street helmet. The Corsair X helmets from Arai are extremely popular among street racers and RX Q helmets borrow many design elements from the Corsair helmets.

It is fondly called the Corsair of the streets. While Arai helmets are notorious for their premium pricing, the RX Q helmets fall under the very affordable helmet category. You can get RX Q helmets for around $370 to $500.

Features

The Arai RX Q helmets are full-face helmets that weigh around 3.59 pounds. Undeniably, they are one of the lightweight helmets in the low-priced helmets category.

In fact, it is hard to find helmets that are priced low and touch the 3.5-pound mark. The RX Q helmets feature an intermediate oval shape which will suit a lot of American riders. You don’t have to worry about the fit because the customizable cheek pads can be used to adjust the fit even if you have a different head shape.

Shell Design

The shell design incorporates design elements suitable for ¾ riding position as against the full on racing tuck. The simple modification in the shell design makes it one of the most comfortable helmets on the street. Its aerodynamic accuracy and performance also have thrilled riders and proven beneficial while racing.

The shield pods are slightly moved to the side to minimize noise level for street riding. The rear diffuser and winglets are designed to keep the helmet steady when you ride on the streets. It uses the same shell like that of Corsair V. It is available in 5 different shell sizes, making it possible to fit a lot of people with different sized heads.

Ventilation

The top vents look similar to those found in other Arai helmets, but changes are made in the interior of the helmet to allow more airflow. The design of the brow vent is also modified.

Just like the Corsair helmet, the brow vents of the RX Q helmets don’t target air to the forehead. Instead, air is targeted to the temples, and the warm air is vented out through the sides. The chin spoiler at the bottom part of the helmet promotes air buffering.

The exterior vents have cowlings over them which are useful in reducing buffeting and increasing the aerodynamics property of the helmet. The ventilation system is further enhanced by an exit vent at the base of the neck that connects to the EPS line channels.

Interior

Arai is the first company to create multi-density cheek pads for helmets in 2010. Now, there are a few helmets that have adopted this design element, and Arai was the first one to introduce luxurious lining for a mid-range helmet.

The cheek pads are slightly bigger, and they distribute the pressure on the surface of the face. This means that the cheek pads won’t push against your face and they are suitable for long distance riding.

Face Shield

The face shield of RX Q helmets has the widest peripheral vision compared to the other Arai helmets. For some time, a wider peripheral design has been used in Corsair V and other upgraded helmets.

The face shield incorporates the same system used successfully by Arai for many years now. The face shield mechanism is significantly different from the other helmets in the market. However, if you have used Arai, you know that the new face shield mechanism is meant to create a stronger shell. It will take some time to get used to changing face shields, but you don’t need any tools for the purpose.

When closed shut, the face shield creates a tight seal against the gasket, ensuring that there is no rattling. The face shield also comes with an anti-fog coating. One point to remember here is that the face shield is not Pinlock ready. However, you can find different tinted face shields and accessories for Arai helmets.

Safety

There is no compromise in safety when you wear an Arai helmet, and all motorcycle riders know it. The DOT and Snell certification are sufficient to ensure that your head remains protected at all costs. The quick release system with the cheek pads allows quick removal of the helmet during emergencies.

Other Factors for Consideration

When the racing helmet design is adopted for a street helmet, the common thought is that the product will not always be comfortable for long distance rides. However, Arai has made this assumption false because it has beautifully blended the components of the Corsair V in the RX Q design to come up with one of the best street helmets designed so far.

At any point, it is not designed to replace the Quantum series. The face shield has a new design, and this means that you can’t use old Arai face shields with the RX Q helmets. It is a good buy if you want to ride in comfort without compromising on safety.
