Is anyone else getting sick of the same old action camera footage shot from a rider’s helmet?
Apart from the still-unresolved legal ramifications of attaching a GoPro or other action camera to a helmet (see stories below), the footage all looks the same and it’s just plain boring.
Now Joby has turned the action camera world professional with a device that your mates can use to get in close to the action as you ride past with your knee down or a rooster tail behind you.
It’s called the Joby Action Jib Kit and Pole Pack which has a pulley system that will tilt the camera on the end of an extendable pole that looks something like a fishing rod.
A jib is a professional name for a similar device used in Hollywood movies to operate cameras that zoom and swoop over the action.
Now you can look like a professional for a lot less as the jib is available from $US80.
It will fit any action camera such as a GoPro or even an iPhone if you add an adapter grip.
And because it weighs only 665g and the extender pole can be packed away in a backpack, you can take it with you on your next ride for some Hollywood-style cinematic fun.
Can you imagine the quality of shots if a pillion operated the jib? They would be able to pan right down to the road and up above the bike, giving incredible views of the action.
