The 2023 Yamaha TW200: A Compact Yet Capable Machine
Contents
In 1987, a Japanese rider by the name of Shinji Kazama rode a motorcycle to the North Pole before riding to the South Pole, up Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Fuji, and 6,005m up Mount Everest. He did it all on a modified Yamaha TW200. The iteration of the bike that’s part of the 2023 Yamaha lineup is largely similar to the icon from nearly four decades ago.
The Yamaha TW200 is not fast or fancy, but it’s one of the most reliable motorcycles in the world. It’s also a quirky-looking thing with a unique wheel and tire setup — a 130-section tire on an 18-inch front wheel and a 180-section tire on a 14-inch rear wheel. Weighing in at just 278 lbs, it’s a bike that most riders will be able to muscle around in the dirt, virtually eliminating the possibility of getting stuck.
To keep up with the times, Yamaha has made some improvements over the years, like adding a disc brake at the front, electric start, and fuel injection. It doesn’t matter how many other bikes you own; there’s probably a space that the Yamaha TW200 can fill up in your garage.
The 2023 Yamaha TW200 starts at $4,899 USD / $5,799 CAD.
