The 2023 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT Is A Sport Touring Powerhouse
Contents
In 2022 Rider Magazine named this bike its Motorcycle of the year, and we couldn’t agree with that choice more. The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT is an excellent sport tourer that ticks so many boxes – superbike performance? Check. Comfortable? Check. State-of-the-art tech? Check. The list goes on.
The 2023 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT is a brilliantly designed sport-touring bike based on the equally brilliant GSX-S1000, which is, in turn, based on the amazing GSX-R1000. Carried over from its siblings in the 2023 Suzuki lineup, the S1000GT houses a 999cc inline 4 powerplant that produces 150 hp and 79.6 lb-ft of torque. Suzuki’s design team says the engine has been retuned specifically for this bike in order to create a more usable midrange for touring purposes.
The GSX-S1000GT has been engineered specifically for a comfortable ride – the bike features vibration-damping handlebars & footpegs, a specially designed seat covered in a new material which promotes grip, and an aerodynamics package which reduces as much wind as possible for a comfortable ride while still maintaining performance. Additionally, the Japanese-made motorcycle comes standard with fully adjustable inverted front forks and a link-style rear suspension setup. Finally, the GT has custom-made Dunlop SPORTMAX Roadsport 2 tires which were created with the sole purpose of keeping this bike agile and comfortable.
The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT has a pretty intense electronics package called the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). This system equips the bike with features such as a drive mode selector, an intelligent traction control system, and low-RPM assist, just to name a few. All of those features and more can be monitored and controlled from the bike’s 6.5-inch full-colour display. Naturally, as a tourer, the GT also comes with a cruise control system, which Suzuki claims is capable of maintaining speeds up to 110mph (180 km/h).
The GT is available in two variations – the basic package and the GT+ package, which adds on a set of paint-matched 25.7-litre saddlebags. In the United States the basic GT package is only available in Metallic Reflective Blue, while the GT+ can be purchased in Metallic Triton Blue or Glass Sparkle Black. In Canada both packages can be purchased in all three colours.
The 2023 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT starts at $13,349 USD / $16,099 CAD. The GT+ Package is an additional $750 USD/ $1,600 CAD

2023 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT/GT Features
PURE POWER AND RELIABILITY TO GO THE DISTANCE
The new version delivers superbike-level performance while minimizing vibration to make riding more exciting, more comfortable and less tiring, whether travelling long distances on the highway or enjoying a ride around town. Its broad, smooth torque curve featuring greater cumulative torque production consistently delivers abundant power throughout the engine’s operating range and makes this grand tourer equally adept at street riding as it is at high-speed long-distance touring, even under load when carrying gear and a passenger on the back.
A CHASSIS ENGINEERED FOR REAL-WORLD ENJOYMENT
At the core is the compact, lightweight chassis design. The rigid twin-spar aluminum frame and ruggedly braced aluminum-alloy swingarm are key to great road holding ability that will go the distance, even when carrying a passenger and a full load of gear.
A SPORTY, YET PLUSH RIDE
The tires adopt an updated internal construction with a carcass that is custom-engineered exclusively for the GT and tuned to deliver just the right level of rigidity to match its weight and the riding conditions under which it will be used. Also introducing a new compound and optimized tread pattern, these new tires enhance grip in wet conditions, warm up faster and achieve better wear resistance.
INTELLIGENT CONTROL PERSONIFIED
S.I.R.S. Controls include:
Ride-by-wire Electronic Throttle System
Suzuki Drive Model Selector (SDMS)
Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS)
Bi-directional Quick Shift System
Low RPM Assist
Suzuki Easy Start System
Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS)
CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM
COMFORTABLE UPRIGHT RIDING POSITION
MAXIMUM COMFORT FOR A SMOOTH, RELAXING RIDE
Special care went into designing the thickness, shape and size of the new rider and pillion seats, and both seats are covered in a new material that provides positive grip. New grab bars at the back of the pillion seat further contribute to passenger comfort.
One additional example is the vibration-absorbing rubber that covers the aluminum footrest pegs.
AERODYNAMICS AND WIND PROTECTION
Design priorities for the new windscreen focused keenly on maximizing wind protection, but also to keep the form as compact and attractive as possible. In addition to deflecting wind away from your head, folds introduced along the sides help protect your shoulders and knees.
BETTER VISIBILITY AND REDUCED FATIGUE
The comfort and reduced fatigue that results from protection against wind, rain and cold better enable you to concentrate on riding so you can fully enjoy the GT’s outstanding performance on those long rides.
