The 2023 GSX-R1000R – “The King of the Sportbikes”
Contents
The Suzuki GSX-R1000 has been a staple of the Japanese manufacturer’s lineup since 2001, and in a lot of ways, the formula hasn’t changed – race-bred tech and engineering combined with sharp styling and brilliant performance, capable on the street and even more capable on the track. The beloved “Gixxer” has never been the type of bike to disappoint, and returning for 2023, this year’s Suzuki GSX-R1000R is no exception.
The GSX-R1000R takes the already impressive GSX-R1000 and steps it up a notch – adding more than just an ‘R’ suffix, this model comes equipped with a launch control system, an up & down quick-shifter, upgraded front & rear Showa suspension, LED position lights, and exclusive bodywork.
The GSX-R1000R hasn’t actually received any updates over last year’s model, however, it is still a formidable competitor on the track – Suzuki claims that this is the lightest, most compact, most aerodynamic, and best handling GSX-R1000R yet – thanks to development made by Suzuki’s now retired MotoGP team. At the heart of this Japanese-made beast of a motorcycle is a 999.8cc inline-four engine pumping out 199hp and 86.7 lb-ft. Keeping that power in check are a set of Brembo T-Drive brake rotors – a new system which involves a combination of traditional rotor spools and T-drive fasteners. This system allows the rotors to absorb more energy more efficiently and, in turn, create better braking force for the rider. Pinning the 2023 Suzuki GSX-R1000R to the road is a set of 17-inch Bridgestone RS10 tires.
In The United States, The GSX-R1000R is available in two colour configurations – Pearl Brilliant White & Metallic Matte Stellar Blue and Metallic Matte Black No. 2 & Glass Sparkle Black. Up north, the Canadian market swaps out the White & Blue getup for Metallic Triton Blue & Metallic Mystic Silver.
The 2023 Suzuki GSX-R1000R starts at $18,199 USD/$23,999 CAD

2023 Suzuki GSX-R1000R Features
SUZUKI PROTECTION PLAN
COMPACT, POWERFUL ENGINE
The crankshaft retains Suzuki’s Even Firing Order Engine legacy. Uneven firing order engines used in other motorcycles vibrate more while the GSX-R1000R makes good power at all engine speeds, runs smoother and reliably while emitting a screamer exhaust note.
The short stroke engine has a 76.0 mm bore versus a 55.1mm stroke, yet is narrower than the prior generation GSX-R1000R thanks to effective design.
The freshly-designed engine has been rotated back and positioned in the frame to create optimal chassis dimensions for precise handling and to balance the motorcycle’s weight.
SUZUKI RACING VARIABLE VALVE TIMING SYSTEM (SR-VVT)
SUZUKI RACING FINGER FOLLOWER VALVE TRAIN
Titanium valves, two 31.5mm intake and two 24mm exhaust valves, are used for each cylinder. The lighter valves respond well to the finger follower’s arms and permit a 14,500 RPM redline that helps produce very high peak horsepower.
SUZUKI LAUNCH CONTROL SYSTEM
The Suzuki Launch Control System provides GSX-R1000R riders a competitive advantage when launching their motorcycle at the start of the race. This system will modulate power so the rider can concentrate on clutch operation.
FORGED ALUMINUM PISTONS
AUTOMATIC IDLE SPEED CONTROL (ISC)
SUZUKI TOP FEED INJECTORS (S-TFI)
SUZUKI DUAL STAGE INTAKE (S-DSI)
4-2-1 EXHAUST SYSTEM

COOLING SYSTEM
The fairing lowers efficiently guide cooling air to the high-capacity curved radiator. Twin cooling fans ensure good cooling at lower road speeds.
Additional heat is removed from the engine via the use of an air-cooled, radiator-style oil cooler mounted directly below the main radiator.
TRANSMISSION
The primary gear ratio is lower compared to the prior GSX-R1000 for stronger acceleration.
A programmable shift light is on the main panel to provide a visual alert to the rider to shift when a certain engine RPM is reached.
BI-DIRECTIONAL QUICK-SHIFT SYSTEM
The Bi-directional Quick-shift system lets riders, using their motorcycle in competition, shift faster than ever before. The system’s clutch less shifting delivers the rider faster and more consistent lap times.
SUZUKI CLUTCH ASSIST SYSTEM (SCAS)
CHASSIS
ALUMINUM TWIN-SPAR STYLE FRAME
SHOWA BFRC-LITE (BALANCE FREE REAR CUSHION LITE)
Racetrack-developed links connect the single SHOWA Balance Free Rear Cushion lite (BFRC-lite) shock to the braced swingarm. The BFRC-lite’s innovative design controls damping force outside of the shock body to not only control how the suspension strokes but helps smooth reaction over bumpy surface or when the chassis is pitched during braking. The result in a new level of response in a race track environment, and new standards of rider feedback and comfort during street riding.
SHOWA BFF (BALANCE FREE FRONT) FORKS
The SHOWA Balance Free Fork (BFF) uses race-level technology to bring a new standard of damping force responsiveness to a SuperSport motorcycle. This suspension’s design controls damping force outside of the spring chamber so the fork precisely maintains consistent damping regardless of its stroking action. With the BFF the rider enjoys an unparalleled level of surface feedback and ride compliance.
STRONG BRAKING PERFORMANCE
BREMBO Radial Mount Brake Calipers provide the rider with strong braking performance combined with superb feel.
The front brakes are complemented by a 240mm rear disc brake with a NISSIN single-piston caliper to help make sure you can have controlled stops.
INERTIAL MEASUREMENT UNIT (IMU)
Accordion Title
NEW MOTION TRACK ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM
AERODYNAMIC BODYWORK
Aerodynamic bodywork is sleek and stylish while housing a new, bright LED headlight and Suzuki Ram Air Direct (SRAD) ducts that feed a high volume of intake air for astonishing top speed muscle. Blacked out instrument panel and GSX-R1000R logo warns others that your bike is something extraordinary.
LCD MULTI-FUNCTION INSTRUMENT PANEL
LED HEADLIGHT
DISTINCTIVE LED POSITION LIGHTS
A pair of distinctive, arched LED Position Lights accent the top edge of the SRAD ducts in the fairing nose to increase visibility and add to the motorcycle’s unique character.
