In the lower price range of the 2023 Royal Enfield lineup is the Scram 411, a lighter and more agile version of the popular Himalayan adventure motorcycle. Launched in North America in 2018, the Himalayan has been a bestseller for the brand. The Scram 411 is based on the recently updated Himalayan, featuring the same Harris Performance-designed chassis and engine. This air-cooled, single overhead cam, two-valve single-engine is paired with a five-speed gearbox instead of the usual six-speed.
The Scram 411 shares the same Euro 5 compliant exhaust system and power output as the Himalayan, boasting 23.9 hp at 6,500 rpm and 23.6 lb.-ft. of torque at around 4,000 rpm. The Scram 411 offers excellent value for money through shared components with other Royal Enfield models.
Despite its modest 24 hp output, the Scram 411’s engine is well-suited for low-speed situations. It provides ample torque throughout the powerband, making it comfortable cruising on dirt or street. While the Scram won’t win any drag races, its charm lies in its ability to provide a more leisurely, enjoyable riding experience.
The most significant changes to the Scram 411 are visual, with a new fender, headlamp, and handlebar configuration that creates a more forward-leaning riding position compared to the Himalayan. The Scram’s street-focused geometry includes a 19-inch front wheel, steeper rake and wheelbase, and shorter front suspension travel.
Additional features of the Scram 411 include a minimalist instrument cluster, dual-channel ABS, and a 4-gallon fuel tank. Royal Enfield has also added “urban badges” to the Scram, which conceal the mounting brackets from the Himalayan’s frame. The result is a uniquely British motorcycle with some basic off-road capability.
