The 2022 Zero DSR: An Electric Dual-Sport That’s Ready to Tackle Any Challenge
Contents
If you don’t plan on hitting the trails or the dirt often, a dirt bike may be too steep a commitment to make. There’s also the fact that most dirt bikes aren’t road legal and will require you to use a truck or trailer to transport. On the other hand, as the name suggests, a dual-sport motorcycle combines the best of both worlds — tarmac and dirt — to form a bike that can pretty much do anything you set out to do on two wheels.
For American company Zero Motorcycles, the Zero DSR is the top-of-the-line dual-sport offering, sitting above the Zero DS. The bike features the same ZF14.4 kWh battery pack system that also powers the more premium models in the 2022 Zero Motorcycles lineup. You also can upgrade to the ZF14.4 Power Tank (18kwh battery pack), which offers even more range. In top-spec, the Zero DSR will give you 204 miles of range in the city and 97 miles on the highway (at 70mph), which is plenty enough for the kind of bike this is. If you think you’ll need a little extra juice, the DSR offers Zero’s hot-swappable battery tech, so you can strap an extra down on your ride to double your distance.
The Zero DSR comes with the Z-Force 75-7R motor that produces 70hp and 116lb-ft of torque, propelling the bike to 102mph.
Considering its off-road intentions, the Zero DSR comes with fully adjustable Showa suspension at either end. Suspension travel is a respectable 178mm at the front and 179mm at the rear. Braking hardware is pretty neat, too, with J.Juan hardware at either end. Zero Motorcycles has equipped the DSR with Pirelli MT-60 dual-sport tires.
The 2022 Zero DSR starts at $16,195 USD / $20,895 CAD.
