The 2022 Zero DS: An Entry Into the American Company’s Dual-Sport Models
Contents
The Zero DS is the base dual-sport model in the 2022 Zero Motorcycle lineup, sitting below the more capable Zero DSR. It’s pretty similar to its bigger sibling with regard to intent and construction, featuring the same chassis and hardware. The most notable differentiating factor is the DS packs a less powerful motor and battery pack.
Entirely manufactured in America, the Zero DS features the company’s ZF7.2 (kWh) battery pack that’s good enough for 82 miles in the city and 39 miles on the highway (at 70mph). This is not a motorcycle that you will be traversing across the country on, but it’s an extremely fun everyday commuter capable of hitting light trails.
Since it features a smaller battery pack, the Zero DS is also a substantial 102lbs lighter than the DSR. You will appreciate this weight difference, especially while commuting at slower speeds and filtering through traffic.
The Zero DS comes with the Z-Force 75-7 motor that produces 46hp and 78lb-ft of torque, propelling the bike to 98mph.
Like the Zero DSR, the Zero DS comes with fully adjustable Showa suspension at either end, with 178mm of travel at the front and 179mm at the rear. Braking hardware is pretty neat, too, with J.Juan hardware at either end. Zero Motorcycles has equipped the DS with Pirelli MT-60 dual-sport tires.
The 2022 Zero DS starts at $11,595 USD / $14,895 CAD.
