Ready to Take on the World: The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally
Contents
Triumph recently updated its Tiger 1200 models. Like the smaller Tiger 900 siblings, there will be two model ranges — the Tiger 1200 GT models and the Tiger 1200 Rally models — in the 2022 Triumph motorcycle portfolio. The Tiger 1200 Rally is available in a Rally Pro variant and a more hardcore Rally Explorer version. So what does the British manufacturer’s flagship adventure motorcycle have to offer?
For starters, the bikes are powered by an updated 1,160cc three-cylinder engine that includes a new T-plane firing order, like on the smaller Tiger models. Peak output figures are 147 hp and 95 lb-ft of torque, which is more than what the previous generation of the motorcycle had to offer.
The more substantial changes are to the rest of the motorcycle. The Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models use an all-new chassis that’s lighter than before and a redesigned swingarm. Suspension is handled by electronically-controlled Showa semi-active suspension. The system allows riders to toggle between nine levels of damping adjustment and electronically set spring preload.
Braking is handled by Brembo Stylema calipers at the front and a Brembo single-piston caliper at the rear. The Tiger 1200 uses Magura radial master cylinders for its front brake and clutch. The Rally model features a 21-inch/18-inch (front/rear) tubeless spoked wheel setup shod in Metzeler Karoo Street tires.
The Rally Pro and Rally Explorer models have industry-leading features, including a bidirectional quick-shifter, cornering ABS, traction control, hill hold, cruise control, heated grips, and six riding modes — Road, Rain, Sport, Rider-configurable, Off-Road, and Off-Road Pro. All of these settings can be adjusted via a new 7-inch full-TFT dash.
In addition to all the aforementioned features, the Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer gets a tire pressure monitoring system and heated rider and pillion seats as standard. It also features a larger fuel tank — 7.92 US gal compared to the Rally Pro’s 5.28 US gal unit. The Explorer model also features a rear-facing Continental radar system that offers a blind spot and lane change warning system.
The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally starts at $22,500 USD / $25,800 CAD.
