The 2022 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 is One of the Most Versatile Motorcycles Out There
Contents
The V-Strom 1050 is one of the most versatile models in the 2022 Suzuki line-up. Suzuki has not updated the model for 2022 yet in the US, but it has done so across the border in Canada, where it’s called the V-Strom 1050A. The V-Strom 1050 is also available in a more off-road-oriented trim bearing the ‘XT’ suffix.
For someone looking to tackle less extreme off-road terrain and will spend more of their time on tarmac, the standard V-Strom 1050 is for you. The V-Strom features alloy wheels — 19-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear — shod in Bridgestone Battlax Adventure A41 tires. Despite being the less off-road-ready version of the bike, it shares its hardware with the ‘XT’ variant. So, suspension is handled by an inverted, fully adjustable 43mm KYD fork and a preload adjustable mono-shock. At the same time, the braking department features a Tokico 4-piston front caliper and a Nissin 2-piston caliper at the rear.
The heart of the V-Strom 1050 is a burly 1,037 cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, V-twin engine that produces a claimed 106hp and 74 lb-ft of torque. Following the engine’s latest update in 2020, it’s also Euro5 compliant.
The Japanese company also introduced multiple rider aids with this update, including Suzuki Traction Control System (with four levels of adjustment), Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (that offers three engine power modes), an Easy Start System, and a Low RPM Assist feature. These features can be toggled and adjusted via a new LCD instrument cluster.
The 2022 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 starts at $USD TBA / $14,599 CAD.

2022 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 Features
Suzuki Protection Plan
EXPLORATION HAS NO LIMITS
Let’s you freely escape into the wilderness and explore to your heart’s content. A sleek look with the latest features allows for a smooth and comfortable ride. Limitless potential to continue your adventure. Ride on my friend. The new generation V-STROM is always by your side.
ATTRACTIVE STYLING
The distinctive styling incorporates elements of both Suzuki’s legendary DR-Z desert racer and the large off-road model DR-BIG. The characteristic beak design first adopted by Suzuki stays true to Suzuki’s heritage while also further evolving the design to be more aggressive and bolder for the new generation V-STROM.
MOUNTING BAR
A mounting bar just below the rider’s eye level is part of the windscreen mount, providing a good place to position accessories like a GPS for navigation.
The Refined V-Twin Engine
The liquid-cooled, DOHC, 1037cm 3 90deg V-twin engine further evolved. It meets new Euro 5 emission control standards while achieving high power of 79.0kW / 8,500rpm while maintaining low fuel consumption (4.9L / 100km). Also, a 35kW version has been added for the European Driving License Directive. The engine delivers deep rumble in the low rpm range, strong and linear torque in the mid-range and maximum horsepower in the high rpm range with a smooth run-up. This refined engine will support the rider to enjoy various situations such as city and rural roads, winding passes, flat dirt roads and highways.
Note: Actual fuel economy may differ owing to differences in conditions such as the weather, road, rider behaviour and maintenance.
Low RPM Assist
The Low RPM assist system monitors and automatically raise the idle speed when taking off from a stop or when riding slowly. Using the electronic throttle, a even finer level control is made possible. The system makes it easier for the rider to pull away from a standstill or maneuver in heavy traffic or through a crowded parking lot.
Suzuki Easy Start System
The Suzuki Easy Start System allows the rider to easily start the engine with a single press of the starter button in any weather conditions or engine state—whether cold or hot. There is no need to continue to press the starter button until the starter ignites and turns the engine.
Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS)
The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) works as an assist clutch to make the lever easier to pull while transmitting the power output, reducing fatigue on long touring.
ELECTRONICAL THROTTLE BODY
Now, the ride-by-wire throttle system is simpler, lighter and more compact than the previous model, with a larger bore (49mm compared to 45mm of the previous model). The throttle body is independently installed to both the front and rear cylinder. Each throttle body has a single butterfly valve, allowing each to be opened and closed using its own independent motor for precise control.
Dual Spark Technology
Each cylinder head is equipped with two iridium spark plugs. The ignition timing is controlled independently contributing to high combustion efficiency, higher power output, a more linear throttle response, easier engine startup and a more stable idle.
ECM
The newly programed ECM (Engine Control Module) provides state-of-the-art engine management and has optimized settings to meet Euro 5 regulations.
