The 2022 Indian FTR Rally Is a More Dirt-Oriented Iteration of the Base FTR
Contents
The 2022 Indian Motorcycle lineup comprises five FTR models, and the FTR Rally is a variant that finds its roots in the base Indian FTR. As its name suggests, the ‘Rally’ suffix brings some off-road-oriented hardware and ergonomics to an already capable package.
The FTR Rally shares its 1,203cc, liquid-cooled V-twin engine with the rest of the FTR models. For 2022, the American manufacturer recalibrated the engine and throttle output for a more refined, smoother, and more approachable ride. Peak output figures are rated at 120 hp and 87 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty enough whether you’re in the city, out on the highway, or tackling some light trails. This year also sees the introduction of a new cylinder deactivation system that manages engine heat when the bike is idle.
Unlike the other FTR models that now come with 17-inch wheels at both ends, the FTR Rally gets a 19-inch front and an 18-inch rear, wearing Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires. The Rally also gets a slightly taller (by 2 inches) ProTaper handlebar than the regular FTR.
Suspension is handled by a USD fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear, offering 150mm of travel. The extra suspension travel over the base models also results in a taller seat height of 815mm. You also have the option to equip the bike with Ohlins shocks and several other accessories
Since the Indian FTR Rally is based on the base model, it misses out on many electronic rider aids that the FTR S and the FTR R Carbon offer. The Rally has a standard ABS, cruise control, and a digi-analog cluster.
The 2022 Indian FTR starts at $13,999 USD / $16,999 CAD.
